VPL-EW295

Optimized for classroom and business applications, the VPL-EW295 WXGA Multimedia Projector from Sony features a brightness of 3800 lumens and is able to accommodate screens up to 300" diagonal - depending on ambient light, throw distance, and other factors. Thanks to a 1.6x optical zoom and a 1.10 to 1.79:1, the VPL-EW295 features the flexibility to adapt to a variety of screen sizes and throw distances, making it a good fit for "on the go" users. With an WXGA (1280 x 800) native resolution, which is a 16:10 aspect ratio format, the projector can show HD content in close to its native aspect ratio and works natively with most computer graphics cards. In addition, it can support a range of non-native resolutions and formats, including SD (480p), HD up to 1080p, and computer signals up to 1600 x 1200 (UXGA).

To give you the flexibility you need, the projector features an assortment of inputs. For digital and HDTV sources, there is an HDMI port. Two VGA ports provide connectivity for analog devices such as computers, integrated AV systems, and one of the inputs can also accept a component video signal when using a separately available component-to-VGA adapter or cable. There is also a composite video input as well as an S-video input for SD analog video sources. A built-in 16-watt speaker means you can often play out audio directly from the projector, without requiring a separate sound system. In addition to HDMI-embedded audio, there is a stereo RCA audio input shared by the S-video and composite inputs, and there is a 3.5mm mini jack audio input paired with each VGA input. To supplement these, there is a mic input allowing a presenter to take advantage of the built-in speaker.

In addition to the aforementioned audio and video inputs, the VPL-EW295 features USB and Ethernet connectivity. There are two USB ports: a type-B port that allows audio and video playback directly from a computer (cable available separately), and a type-A port that lets you give "PC-less" presentations of various still image formats, plus enables installation of the separately available IFU-WLM3 wireless LAN adapter. With the Ethernet port, multiple projectors can be managed centrally, and it is possible to give remote presentations across a local network.

For local operation, an IR remote is included. In addition, RS-232 enables integration with room control systems such as Crestron.

BrightEra 3LCD Technology

A beamsplitter sends red, blue, and green light through three monochrome LCD panels to render a video image. 3LCD design features no moving parts in the imaging system, although there is still a cooling fan, and is free of the "rainbow effect" artifact sometimes perceived on color-wheel-based systems
1.6x Zoom and 1.10 to 1.79:1 Throw Ratio
Throw ratio is one of the most important specifications a projector lens has as it tells you the image size (width) you will get at a given distance from the screen. This projector is optimized for screens between 30 and 300" diagonal
3800 Lumens Lamp
A single lamp provides 3800 lumens brightness in the brightest mode, and is estimated to last 6000 hours - up to 10,000 if continuously used in the lowest brightness setting. To determine the ideal brightness level for your application, you will need to take into account the screen width, distance from the projector to the screen (throw distance), amount of ambient light near the screen, and the reflectivity (gain) of the screen surface used
16:10 Native Aspect Ratio
This projector features a 16:10 native aspect ratio. This is considered a widescreen format, and comes very close to the 16:9 standard of HDTV. This format is ideal if you plan to show HD video, and can still be used for presentations - though in the case of PowerPoints, some extra space may be leftover on the sides. The projector can show 4:3 too; however, black bars (pillaring) will have to be applied, or the image will have to be stretched or cropped to fit.
USB Computer Connectivity
As an alternative to VGA or HDMI, you can connect the projector directly to a Windows or Mac computer using USB (cable available separately) to play back audio and video. This feature is ideal when using a computer that does not have a free video output
"PC-Less" USB Presentations
A USB Media Viewer allows users to directly project image files stored on a USB memory device such as a flash drive. Supported formats include:
  • JPEG: .jpg / .jpeg
  • Bitmap: .bmp
  • PNG: .png
  • GIF: .gif
  • TIFF: .tif / .tiff
Wireless Tablet Connection Capability
By using the separately available wireless LAN module (IFU-WLM3) and Pixelwork Inc.'s VueMagic Mobile Presenter app, presentations and graphics can be wirelessly beamed from mobile devices to the projector. Supported mobile devices include Apple devices supporting iOS 5.1.1. and 6. Wireless annotation and transferring some file formats require VueMagic Pro which is available through the iTunes Store for an additional charge
Ethernet Connectivity
Remote control of multiple projectors can be performed via a LAN (wired) network. This simplifies IT administration by having all devices managed from a central location. Additionally, the Ethernet connection can be used to deliver remote presentations to the projector via a local network - and for wireless access, the separately available IFU-WLM3 wireless LAN adapter can be installed
Auto Brightness
In this mode, adjusts brightness automatically based on the content being displayed
Eco Mode
Provides extended lamp life and lower power consumption (brightness will be lower)
Gamma Correction
Employs 12-bit 3D digital gamma correction for enhanced tonal reproduction
Simplified Maintenance
Synchronized lamp and filter maintenance timing
